Vietnam:Dead Cambodian woman positive to bird flu virus, death total to 13

"Our testing today showed that samples from the Cambodia patient were tested positive to H5N1," said Phan Van Tu, virologist from the Pasteur Institute in Vietnam´s Ho Chi Minh City.
The young woman, who lived in Cambodia´s Kampot province adjacent to Vietnam´s southern Kien Giang province, died after exhibiting bird flu symptoms such as high temperature and pneumonia. She was admitted to the provincial hospital of Kien Giang on Jan. 28.
The Cambodian woman, who lived in a bird flu-hit area, had slaughtered fowls for meal two weeks before hospitalization. Before her death, her younger brother died with bird flu symptoms,said doctors from the hospital.
Cambodian official: No bird flu found of relatives of dead woman
No H5N1 virus was found in the testing of seven relatives of woman died of bird flu in Vietnam, official said on Thursday.
"The test from the Pasteur Institute here showed that they are negative for bird flu infection," said Ly Sovann, head of the Health Ministry´s infections disease department.
And "we will also give further test and to confirm the result of the dead woman," he added.
The 25-year-old woman from Cambodia´s Kampot province along the border of Vietnam died on Jan. 30, two days after undergone treatment in Vietnam´s Kaing Eang provincial hospital. The woman was believed to be the first person killed by the bird flu in Cambodia.
The authorities have taken blood samples from seven of the woman´s relatives as well as the family´s fowl, but neither of them were found infected with H5N1 virus, he said.
The woman´s 14-year-old brother also died in Jan. 21 after suffering bird flu-like symptoms and that other members of the family were also suffering from high fever and and respiratory problems.
Moreover, some chickens and fowl fell ill and died in the area in recent months.
The Cambodian government has banned the import of poultry and poultry products from Vietnam and Thailand from Dec. 31, as avian influenza continued to kill people in the two countries. And officials were asked to be extra careful when examining livestock and related products.
