Kuala Lumpur, Sept. 15 (VNA) - Another case of bird flu has been detected in the quarantined area in the Tumpat district and a new case in the Bachok district affecting domestic fowls, Veterinary Services Department Director Hawari Hussein has told reporters.
Both districts are located in the northeastern state of Kelantan, he said, stressed the new case in Bachok occurred in Kampung Kuchelong, affecting five chickens which showed signs of avian influenza.
"The culling of fowls and pet birds in these areas will begin immediately," he said, adding that the killing of fowls and pet birds in several affected villages was almost completed, with a total of 579 fowls and pet birds destroyed.
House-to-house checks are still being conducted in several districts and a quarantine order is being enforced in the Pasir Mas, Tumpat, Kota Baharu and Bachok districts.
Dr Hawari reminded residents in the affected areas not to transport their fowls and pet birds out of the state as the ban was still in force. He also asked residents in areas close to the Malaysia-Thailand border not to bring in any livestock and poultry-based products
