US: Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Detected in Multi-Species Backyard Flocks in Keokuk and Van Buren Counties in Iowa

(Feb. 25, 2026) - The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) have detected cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1 HPAI) in multi-species backyard flocks in Van Buren and Keokuk Counties. These cases are Iowa’s third and fourth detections of H5N1 HPAI in 2026.
