Animal infection with avian influenza virus - WPRO/WHO

From 28 November to 4 December 2025, 30 new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in animals were reported to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) in the Western Pacific Region: Japan and Republic of Korea.
Japan: Three outbreaks of H5N1 in domestic poultry were reported from Miyazaki and Niigata prefectures, with cumulatively 70 new cases, 70 new deaths, and 956 285 birds killed and disposed of. Additionally, 24 outbreaks of H5N1 in wild birds were reported from Fukuoka, Fukushima, Gunma, Hokkaido, Kagoshima, Miyazaki, and Niigata prefectures, with cumulatively 29 new cases and 20 new deaths.
Republic of Korea: Three outbreaks of H5N1 in wild birds were reported from Busan,
Chungcheongbuk-do, and Chungcheongnam-do, with cumulatively two new cases and two new deaths.
