Viet Nam: one new case of human infection with avian influenza A(H5)virus was reported

From 29 November to 5 December 2024, one new case of human infection with avian influenza A(H5)virus was reported to WHO in the Western Pacific Region. An 18 year old man from Tan An City, Long An Province of Southern Viet Nam with onset of fever on 9 November 2024. The patient developed fatigue, shortness of breath and severe pneumonia and had underlying medical co-morbidities. He was admitted
in hospital and fully recovered and discharged from hospital on 22 November 2024. The case reported exposure to sick and dead poultry, prior to illness. All his contacts remain healthy without symptoms.
