Follow-up report No. 4 New outbreaks in wild birds are as follows: Outbreak 1 - Izumi-City 3: A dead Grus monacha (Hooded crane) was collected in Kagoshima prefecture on 19 January 2021 and tested against avian influenza virus. On 25 January, Kagoshima University conducted RT-PCR and gene sequencing tests and confirmed that the subtype of the virus was H5N8. Outbreak 2 - Obihiro-City 1: A dead Falco peregrinus (Peregrine Falcon) was collected in Hokkaido prefecture on 18 January 2021 and tested against avian influenza virus. On 28 January, Hokkaido University conducted RT-PCR and gene sequencing tests and confirmed that the subtype of the virus was H5N8. Outbreak 3 - Takaharu-Town 1: 22 dead Anas platyrhynchos (Mallard) were collected in Miyazaki prefecture on 24 January 2021 and 17 of them tested against avian influenza virus. On 29 January, Tottori University conducted RT-PCR and gene sequencing tests and 2 of them were confirmed that the subtype of the virus was H5N8. Outbreak 4 - Asahikawa-City 1: A weakened Haliaeetus albicilla (White-tailed eagle) was collected in Hokkaido prefecture on 27 January 2021 and tested against avian influenza virus. On 3 Feburary, Hokkaido University conducted RT-PCR and gene sequencing tests and confirmed that the subtype of the virus was H5N8.
