Epidemiological comments
One Anas acuta in Chiayi County was sampled by the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology on 15 December 2020 and was sent to the Animal Health Research Institute (AHRI) on 25 December 2020. Highly pathogenic avian influenza H5 subtype was detected and confirmed by the AHRI on 29 December 2020. The Local Animal Disease Inspection Authority (LADIA) disinfected the neighbouring areas of the spot where the Anas acuta was found. To prevent the outbreak from spreading, a 3-km-radius surveillance zone is imposed around the bird picked up spot. The LADIA has conducted clinical investigation and confirmed that there are no poultry farms within the 3 km radius around the spot.
