October is the migration season from Europe where 500 million birds are passing over Israel. Most likely, the virus has been introduced by migratory birds. There is a strong suggestion that black swans are very sensitive to the virus since in three locations, black swans were found dead or were euthanized, due to the virus. These swans are Australian birds (not in the wild in Israel). The black swans were found dead in these three locations whereas a multiple of other water birds species are present and almost none of them was found affected.
