Epidemiology
Source of the outbreak(s) or origin of infection
  • Unknown or inconclusive
Epidemiological comments When we performed active surveillance program, samples were collected from 6 poultry farms in Chiayi County, Yunlin County and Pingtung County. Samples were sent to the national Laboratory, the Animal Health Research Institute (AHRI) for diagnosis. H5N2 subtype low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) was confirmed by AHRI. These farms were put under movement restrictions. The pathogenicity of the virus was subsequently confirmed by the AHRI as low pathogenic (less than 75% mortality of the tested chickens) on 17 September 2018. Surrounding poultry farms within 3 km radius of the infected farms were placed under intensified surveillance for 3 months.
