On 28 December, one wigeon was found in a residential area in Wexford town, 600 metres from the harbour. The bird was alive but unable to fly, and it had no other clinical symptoms. It was euthanized and submitted for routine avian influenza surveillance. On 30 December the Irish Central Veterinary Research Laboratory confirmed H5N8. On 6 January highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N8 was confirmed. |
