A 55-year-old man died Wednesday morning in central China´s Hunan Province due to an infection of H7N9 avian flu, local health authorities said.
The patient, a man surnamed Jiao, died after medical treatment failed to save him, according to an official from the provincial health and family planning department.
Jiao, a native of neighboring Jiangxi Province, tested positive for the flu and was transferred from the Liuyang Municipal People´s Hospital to the Changsha Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention on April 26 after eleven days of exhibiting symptoms.
One unrelated bird flu infection was reported in the province´s city of Shaoyang on Wednesday.
