Epidemiological comments

A high mortality was reported on 12 January in two layer farms, which were immediately inspected by official staff from SENASICA in the Municipality of Encarnación de Díaz, State of Jalisco. The first outbreak has a population of 191,771 birds aged 72 weeks, of which 10,010 sick and 9,077 dead. The second outbreak has a population of 205,742 birds aged 65 weeks, of which 10,058 sick and 8,932 dead.
Both outbreaks were detected through notification made by the veterinarians in charge of these farms. The disease evolved hyperacutely with clinical signs as conjunctivitis, edema, cyanosis, palpebral, comb and chin swelling and sudden death. Both farms are being depopulated.
Active and passive surveillance continues at national level and epidemiological investigation will go on in order to identify the source of the infection.
