Epidemiological comments An intensive surveillance system is in place for all poultry farms, poultry markets, pet bird shops and wild birds in Hong Kong.
This H5N1 infected wild bird was detected in the frame of the ongoing surveillance programme on wild birds. No spread of disease was evident.
As a precautionary measure, the Mai Po Nature Reserve has been temporarily closed to visitors for 21 days starting from 31 March 2010.
As this was a wild bird case, the date the event ended is the same as the date the bird was found (26 March 2010).
