Epidemiological comments | Final disinfection after culling and destruction of birds and infected materials was completed on 28 January 2009 in the first outbreak located in Nagaar Nagarpalika and on 25 February 2009 in the second outbreak located in Sharamatinamati. In both cases, postoperative surveillance activities were carried out for 3 months starting from the end of final disinfection. Even after the three-month period of intensive surveillance activities (see follow-up report No. 3), there is no evidence of HPAI (H5N1) being present in the country. Therefore, Nepal declares itself free from HPAI (H5N1) with effect from 8 July 2009 in accordance with Article 10.4.4. of the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code (Ed.2008). |
