China: Experts of Hong Kong, Macao and Guangdong meet to discuss seasonal flu

Public health and medical professional of Hong Kong, Macao and Guangdong today (March 17) held a meeting at the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health on issues relating to the prevention and control of seasonal flu.

The meeting was arranged in view of the current influenza situation and developments in Hong Kong.

During the meeting experts exchanged views and share information on epidemiological and laboratory findings of the three places as well as clinical management of influenza.

The laboratory identification of influenza virus and measures on the prevention and control of influenza being carried out in Hong Kong were also discussed in the meeting.

A CHP spokesman said the meeting was held in accordance with the agreement signed by the health authorities of the three places in 2005 under which Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong would enhance cooperation in the control and prevention of infectious diseases.

Experts participating in the meeting included Consultant, (Community Medicine) of CHP, Dr SK Chuang; Consultant in-charge of Pathology Service of DH, Dr W L Lim; Chief Manager (Infection, Emergency and Contingency) of the Hospital Authority, Dr Liu Shao-haei; Dr Lin Jinyan and Dr He Jianfeng from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Guangdong Province; Consultant Pediatrician, Chief of Service of Pediatrics and Neonatology of the Health Bureau, Macao SAR, Dr Liu Kin-man; and Public Health Specialist, Health Authority Officer of the Control of Communicable Diseases and Surveillance of Diseases Of the Health Bureau, Macao SAR, Dr Leung Iek-hou.
