China: H5N1 outbreak confrimed in Turpan

Bird flu infection took place in Turpan City in northwestern China´s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Dec. 29 and resulted in 4,850 poultry deaths.

The case was confirmed by a state laboratory on Jan. 3 to be a species of H5N1 virus.
The Ministry of Agriculture and local governments had culled 29,383 fowls, sources said Friday.
