Bird flu has killed 77 people in Indonesia, more than any other country in the world, with the latest victim being a 5-year-old girl in Central Java province.
The girl died during treatment at a hospital in the town of Surakarta, some 600 km east of Jakarta, last Thursday but the Health Ministry announced in a release Wednesday.
The girl had been treated for a week at the hospital for respiratory problems and developing bird flu symptoms.
She had a history of contact with sick chickens near her house.
